Mad Avatar Blue Piattella: the CBD resin that resets the bar

Mad Avatar Blue Piattella is what insiders call a premium-finish resin: soft paste, dense aroma, an aromatic intensity you wouldn't expect from French CBD.

Mad Avatar Blue Piattella: the CBD resin that resets the bar

Mad Avatar Blue Piattella. Three words that point to three precise things: the brand (Mad Avatar, an American genetic line known for stable profiles), the colour (a characteristic bluish tint on the buds, from controlled thermal stress at the end of flowering), and the finish (piatella, an Italian cold-pressing method that yields a soft paste rather than a hard block).

What exactly is a piattella?

The piatella (also spelled piattella) is an Italian-origin resin pressing technique, popularised by premium extraction producers in recent years. The principle: extract trichomes via dry sift or ice-water, then press the material at very low pressure and low temperature, without solvent. The result: a soft, slightly creamy texture that crumbles easily between two fingers.

The advantage over a classic hot-pressed hash: piatella retains a maximum of volatile terpenes — the ones that make the aromatic difference. Traditional Moroccan hash, pressed at higher temperature, structurally loses part of its olfactive profile during pressing. Piatella does not.

The aromatic profile of the Mad Avatar Blue version

Our current batch stands out with a dense, complex nose, free of the resinous-acrid trace you find on poorly made piatellas. Three notes dominate:

  • Blueberry-dark fruits — the opening note, fresh, juicy. It's what reminds you why Avatar genetics were chosen: that ample fruitiness rarely found in resins.
  • Resinous pine — mid-palate, signature of alpha-pinene terpenes. Adds depth, balances the fruity note.
  • Spiced wood / cedar — on the finish, long, dry, with a peppery touch from caryophyllene.

Visually, the resin presents a fine, almost creamy grain, with a slight greenish tint shot through with bluish reflections under direct light. Colour is the most reliable indicator: a well-made piatella isn't dark brown (a sign of oxidation or excessive pressing temperature).

Our version: why Mad Avatar Blue at Horus

A good portion of resins sold as « piatella » online are, at best, hashes pressed less hard than a classic Moroccan. At worst: dry-sift spread on aluminium foil with a trendy label slapped on top. The customer pays for the marketing, not the product.

For Mad Avatar Blue Piattella, we work with a European producer who masters the whole process: dry sift, pressing at 40°C max (authentic piatella is done cold), post-press curing in a humidity-controlled room for 4 weeks. The result comes close to what the best Dutch coffeeshops carried fifteen years ago, before the industrial drift of the sector.

We won't pretend: it costs more. More than double the standard commercial Moroccan. And that's normal, because it's a different product. Comparing the two on price per gram is like comparing a generic Bordeaux to a Grand Cru on bottle price alone.

How to enjoy it best

Piatella works for all the classic resin consumption methods, but some bring out the product more than others:

  • Cold vaporisation (160-175°C) — the gold standard. Preserves the entire aromatic profile. With a dry conduction vaporiser, the first puffs come through almost entirely aromatic, without the « heavy » side of less refined resins.
  • Indulgent infusion — Mad Avatar Blue surprisingly works in a milk-spice infusion (cardamom, cinnamon), where the dark-fruit note shines. Use 0.1g per large cup.
  • Raw tasting — for connoisseurs: a small piece crumbled between two fingers, smelled before any consumption. It's the ultimate quality test for a piatella.

The Horus stance: quality first

The French CBD sector built itself on low prices, fuzzy batches and shifting traceability. It's a heritage we don't like. Mad Avatar Blue Piattella is exactly the kind of product we couldn't defend under that logic: you have to accept selling less volume, to customers who get the difference, rather than a lot at low price.

Our Mad Avatar Blue is traceable to the batch, comes with its full certificate of analysis, and we guarantee its freshness (fast rotation, never dormant stock). What we'd call, for lack of a better word, honest premium sourcing.

Available at Horus shops in Boulogne-sur-Gesse and L'Isle-en-Dodon, and shipped from our site. Deliberately limited stock — we prefer temporary stockouts to quality compromises.

To compare with tradition: our Moroccan Hash CBD guide, finishing-focused but on a radically different aromatic profile. For premium flowers: Cherry Moon.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a piatella and a classic hash?

Piatella is pressed at low temperature (40°C max), low pressure, no excessive heat. A classic hash (Moroccan, Lebanese) is pressed hotter and harder. Consequence: piatella retains more terpenes (= more aromatic), but it's more fragile and keeps less long than a dry hard hash.

Why « blue » in Mad Avatar Blue?

The bluish colour of the buds at end of flowering — a phenotypic trait of this genetic line under controlled night thermal stress during the last 2 weeks. These anthocyanins (blue-violet pigments) have no impact on the cannabinoid profile, but mark the variety visually.

How do you store a piatella?

Differently from dry hash. Tinted or opaque glass jar, hermetically sealed, away from light and heat. Ideally in the cool zone (15-18°C) of a cupboard. Avoid the fridge (unstable humidity). A properly stored piatella keeps its qualities 6-9 months.

Is Mad Avatar Blue suitable for beginners?

Not really, in the sense that it requires an already-trained palate to appreciate all the nuances. For someone starting out, the complexity will be a bit lost. Our Cherry Moon or Permanent Marker are better entry points.

How can you check piatella quality before buying?

Texture: should be soft under finger pressure, neither hard nor sticky. Colour: green-gold to brownish, never very dark brown. Smell: clean, complex, no ammonia note (sign of unwanted fermentation). And of course, recent certificate of analysis provided by the seller.
