Gummies, chocolates, honey, biscuits: CBD edibles are growing. Understand CBD digestion, onset times and pitfalls to avoid.

CBD Edibles: Gummies, Chocolates, Infusions

CBD edibles were long the blind spot of the French market: imported, loosely regulated, sometimes fanciful. The segment is now firming up around stricter European manufacture. Here is what to understand before adding any to your basket.

How ingested CBD is metabolised

Swallowed CBD goes through the digestive tract then the liver before reaching the bloodstream — the "first pass". As a result:

  • Longer onset (45-90 minutes typically).
  • Lower bioavailability than sublingual or inhaled.
  • Effect lasts longer though — several hours.

Main edible families

  1. Gummies — unit-dosed (often 5, 10 or 25 mg CBD). Practical, predictable.
  2. Chocolates — fatty matrix aids absorption. Rich aromatic profile.
  3. Honey and jams — spread use, less precise dose.
  4. Infusions and teas — variable, treated separately.

Reading an edible label

  • Dose per unit clearly stated.
  • CBD source — full, broad or isolate.
  • Ingredient list — the shorter the better.
  • "Non-medical" mention and batch number.

The Horus stance

Our edible range is deliberately narrow. We prefer a few well-made references — European manufacture, clear dosing, readable ingredients — over a multicolour display you cannot make sense of. In Boulogne-sur-Gesse and L'Isle-en-Dodon we always explain the onset delay before any sale.

To go further: CBN in evening formulas, or CBC for a richer cannabinoid reading.
