"A few drops under the tongue, hold, swallow." This ritual sentence has gone with CBD oils since they existed. Why under the tongue rather than in a glass of water or in a capsule? A short answer.
The sublingual mucosa, a quiet motorway
Under the tongue lies a thin, highly vascularised mucosa. Lipid-soluble molecules placed there can cross the mucosa and enter the bloodstream directly, without passing through the stomach or the liver. This is the sublingual route.
Two upsides: faster absorption, and the molecules bypass the liver's "first-pass metabolism", which destroys a good share of what you swallow. For a CBD oil, this means higher bioavailability than a plain capsule at equal dose.
The protocol that works
- Clean mouth: not right after a yoghurt or a hot coffee.
- A few drops placed under the tongue, not spread everywhere.
- Hold 60 to 90 seconds without swallowing.
- Swallow the rest, which will be digested normally.
Taste, the real subject
A full-spectrum oil has a frank vegetal taste, sometimes bitter or peppery. The honest compromise is an MCT oil with a full or broad spectrum extract, no sugar, no flavouring.
And what about medical use?
There are prescription cannabidiol protocols, framed by hospital pharmacies in France. Those are not the products you find in a shop. Any medical question belongs to your doctor and your pharmacist. A wellness oil from a shop is not a medicine and is not a substitute for anything.
