For many adult users, the hard part is not CBD: it is dropping the tobacco that comes with the mixed joint. Several dried herbs have a long tradition in herbal smoking and now serve as bases for tobacco-free, nicotine-free blends.
Why drop the tobacco
Tobacco burns hotter than hemp, adds nicotine, and brings its own tars and additives. For someone consuming CBD for anything other than nicotine, this is a pure health and money cost. Herbal smoking emerged from that observation.
An important point: dropping tobacco does not remove combustion, hence not all the risks. Herbal smoking is cleaner than a mixed joint, but less clean than the vape.
The classic herbs
- Damiana — slightly bitter Mexican herb, one of the most used bases.
- Mullein — soft, near-neutral leaves, used to soften a blend.
- Holy basil (Tulsi) — peppery-herbal note, traditional in India.
- Lavender — strong scent, dose with restraint (10% max).
- Chamomile — soft, slightly sweet, pleasant in moderate amounts.
Building a balanced blend
Base rule: neutral matrix (mullein, damiana) at 60-70%, CBD at 20-30%, scented herbs at 5-10%. Medium grind, mix by hand, rest 24 hours in a sealed jar so aromas marry.
Pre-made blends
Some "tobacco substitutes" add synthetic flavours or sugars. A good blend has 3-5 recognisable ingredients.
The Horus stance
In our shops in Boulogne-sur-Gesse and L'Isle-en-Dodon, we first recommend the vape. For those who want the rolling ritual, we talk herbs rather than tobacco. And we remind: there is no clean smoke — only less dirty smoke.
To go further: combustion and the mixed joint.
CBD is not a medicine. Sold exclusively to adults (≥ 18), non-medical use. Plant combustion carries health risks.
